RSVP is a Senior Corps Project of the Federal Corporation for National and Community Service. Since 1983, FiftyForward (formerly Senior Citizens Inc.) has hosted RSVP of Davidson and Williamson Counties locally by providing a 30% match to the Corporation's grant. There are RSVP projects in every county of the United States.
RSVP places working and retired adults 55 and older into meaningful volunteer service in non-profits, government agencies, high rises, and public and private schools in Davidson and Williamson Counties.
In the July 1, 2007-June 30, 2008 fiscal year, 720 RSVP volunteers provided 53,490 hours of service. At the current value of $19.51 per hour, that is a $1,043,590 investment in our community!
SPECIAL PROGRAMS OF RSVP
Friends Learning in Pairs is an intergenerational tutoring and mentoring program that places RSVP volunteers into weekly service, one on one, with at risk K-4 readers in 34 public elementary schools. A serve and learn volunteer experience.
The RSVP High Rise Program engages RSVP volunteer residents without transportation in on-site Bulk Mailing projects and virtual volunteer opportunities. The volunteer mailing sessions save non profit agencies thousands of dollars in mail processing costs. Residents in seven high rises enjoy a social time where they learn about agencies in the Nashville area while they provide vital volunteer service to their
community.
The Galileo Project is an intergenerational project partnership between Dyer Observatory, and Currey Ingram Academy. RSVP volunteers assist Dyer Observatory staff, Currey Ingram 8th grade science teachers, and students engage in a monthly hands on learning experiences about astronomy. A Serve and Learn volunteer experience.
"Duets" is an intergenerational partnership with RSVP and W.O. Smith Nashville Community Music School. RSVP volunteers who have taken music lessons, or have music performance experience, are placed into weekly service as one on one music teachers and mentors for low income children. A Serve and Learn volunteer experience.
Nashville RotaryREADS is a volunteer from home project for Nashville Rotary members who are 55 and older. 29 volunteers are creating an audio library for Park Avenue Enhanced Option School students in need of reading and reading comprehension help.
